Custom Lawn Care Services

Make your lawn the envy of the neighborhood by having Scott Hild Landscaping provide you with a custom lawn care program for your property.

Here at Scott Hild Landscaping, we believe that a combination of proper cultural practices (mowing, watering, etc.) combined with proper inputs (fertilizer, lime, etc.) will produce a thick and healthy lawn that is free of weeds and pests. Our trained technicians will not only diagnose and treat the problems on your property; but also recommend resolving these issues and prevent them from returning. Scott Hild Landscaping does not believe in quick fixes!

Our lawn care program includes monthly visits to your property throughout the season by a NJ licensed pesticide applicator to perform any combination of the following services:

  • Fertilize your lawn in order to maintain overall health and desired appearance
  • Control/prevent weeds (crabgrass, dandelions, etc.) and insects (grubs, chinch bugs, etc.) from taking over/damaging your lawn
  • Monitor and treat for lawn diseases (if necessary)
  • Assess and make applications to promote and maintain soil health (lime, gypsum, etc.)

Additional Lawn Care Services

As a lawn care customer, you will receive an appropriate combination of the following services based on the unique requirements of your property:

Dethatching:

Thatch is a loose, intermingled organic layer comprised of dead and living shoots, stems, and

roots that develops between the leaf blades of your lawn and the soil surface. A thin layer of

thatch (1/2” or less) can actually be beneficial for your lawn, but too much thatch will likely lead

to issues such as disease and insect problems. A thick thatch layer will also impede water, air and nutrients from reaching the soil/root zone of your turf. In order to keep your lawn looking its best, we recommend getting your lawn dethatched on an annual basis.

All of our lawn care customers receive a thorough dethatching as part of their spring cleanup. Our more discerning customers get their lawns dethatched 2x per season (spring and fall).

With the surface of your lawn dethatched and clean, it is an excellent time to have Scott Hild Landscaping re-seed bare, damaged and/or thin areas of your lawn.

Core Aeration:

One of the best things you can do to improve the health of your lawn is regular core aeration.

Core aeration is the mechanically process of pulling small cores/plugs of soil from your lawn. This process will help relieve soil compaction, promote a deeper root system and improve air, water and nutrient movement into the root zone.

All of our lawn care customers receive an annual core aeration service in the late summer/early fall. Spring core aeration can also be performed if needed or upon request.

After a core aeration service, we always recommend overseeding your lawn with an appropriate grass seed blended for your property's growing conditions. Seed broadcasted over your lawn is allowed to fall to the soil’s surface as well as into the aeration holes. Especially in the aeration holes, you can expect enhanced seed germination.

Seeding:

Whether performing a complete overseeding or a spot lawn repair, grass seed is one of the most important inputs you can incorporate into your existing lawn care program. As Paul D. Sachs said in his book (Managing Healthy Sports Fields):

“The infusion of new seed into existing turf is an injection of youth into a natural aging process.”

A seeded lawn is always stronger and healthier than a sodded lawn. Even if your lawn was sod when it was new, we still recommend regular seeding to keep your lawn performing at its best. By constantly introducing new varieties of grass seed, custom blended for your property’s specific growing conditions, we can create a lawn that is more drought, disease, and insect resistant without the use of additional pesticides. Remember, a thick and vigorously growing lawn is nature’s #1 defense against weeds.

"We hired Scott and his team for our landscaping around our new house. Scott spent the time time with my wife selecting the perfect plants for our property and was extremely knowledgeable. Not only did he meet the deadline we gave him, he timed the install perfectly so the annuals would be in bloom for our daughters wedding. Scott also followed up onsite for weeks after the install making sure that the new sod and plantings were taking root and getting enough water. Great job, highly recommend."
